Let’s Be Honest: The Brand Strategy Process is Messy
Ever felt like your brand is just vibes?
Random notes in your phone.
Half-finished Canva graphics.
Post ideas scribbled on the back of a receipt.
Same.
Marketing is messy.
Ideas don’t come out in perfect slides.
But that’s what makes good strategy so powerful.
It’s not about avoiding chaos.
It’s about taming it.
The Problem with Pretend-Perfect Planning
Most “marketing gurus” sell you this fantasy:
→ One perfect template.
→ One clear path.
→ A 5-step system that works for everyone.
But your brand isn’t a formula.
It’s a living thing.
It’s messy.
It changes.
Pretending it’s neat doesn’t help you.
Owning the chaos does.
Why Strategy Needs Chaos
Chaos = ideas.
Chaos = raw voice.
Chaos = the real you.
Your messy notes are proof you care.
That you have something to say.
Strategy isn’t about killing that.
It’s about organizing it so your audience actually gets it.
My Brand Strategy Process (a.k.a. Taming the Beast)
If you’re looking for a no-fluff, here’s how I do it:
1. Collect the Chaos
→ Voice notes.
→ Client DMs.
→ Half-baked headlines.
→ Spicy takes you rant about in the car.
Everything is valid.
I want it all.
Because the real gold is always in the unfiltered stuff.
2. Find the Patterns
Once I have the chaos in one place, I start looking for:
→ Themes.
→ Repeats.
→ Hidden opinions.
→ Your actual voice.
This is where your brand personality shows up.
3. Define the Audience’s Needs
Your voice is great.
But strategy means meeting them where they are.
→ What do they want?
→ What do they need to hear?
→ What stops them from buying?
Chaos becomes clear when you see it through their eyes.
4. Craft the Core Message
Once I know the patterns and the audience, I boil it down.
→ One-liners.
→ Taglines.
→ Value props.
→ Clear brand promises.
So even you can explain your brand in one sentence.
5. Build the Plan
→ Where are you showing up?
→ What are you saying?
→ How often?
→ In what format?
This is the part everyone wants first.
But it only works once the chaos is tamed.
Why You Should Love the Mess
If you’re waiting to “figure it all out” before you market?
Good luck, babe.
Because you’ll never run out of chaos.
That’s the job.
Great brands aren’t perfect.
They’re clear enough to connect.
Consistent enough to be trusted.
Confident enough to keep going.
